My Cloth Diaper Stash

I was very intrigued with cloth diapers and really wanted to cloth diaper with  my first.  My husband and I went back and forth about it. He being the environmentalist that he is, was worried that the energy and water used to clean the cloth diapers may not be as environmentally friendly as it sounded. He was nervous about the upfront cost of cloth and also worried about the excess amount of laundry.  Although it was more his decision then mine, we finally decided not to do it with B.  Looking back I regret this immensely!

When I got pregnant with Harrison, I was adamant on cloth diapering and this time it did not take too much arm twisting to get my husband on board.  I am not going to lie, the upfront cost of cloth diapering can be very daunting.  You can do it as cheaply (pre-fold/flats/covers) or go with more expensive options, which would include a stash of AIO’s (all-in-one).  AIO’s are the closest to your typical disposable diaper. Even going the most expensive route will save you money in the long run. If you think about the upfront cost and the months you use the diapers, you will easily see the cost savings.  Take good care of your diapers and they will easily last you for multiple kids! Plus, cloth has a great resale value, something you obviously cannot get with disposables!

Leading up to Harrison’s birth, I slowly purchase different diapers.  This did not give us that initial overwhelming feeling of the upfront cost. I looked for deals on different cloth websites and even scored some “used” diapers that were practically brand new!

  4. That is a pretty stash! :-) Sorry your DH wasn’t on board the first time. My oldest was disposable diapered and I really regret that. It makes me sick thinking about the money I wasted, when I could have used those diapers for 3 babies!

  5. Buying used diapers and looking for sales is a GREAT way to expand your stash. I have 20ish China cheapies, 1 kissaluvs fitted, 4 kissaluvs contours, 2 osocozy fitteds, 5ish Flips, 1 wolbybug cover, 4 Thirsties covers, at least a dozen receiving blankets which I use as flats, and several new homemade wool soakers/longies in my stash. Maybe 1/3 of them were bought ‘used’.
